Maverick
I never met Maverick, but I was commissioned to create this illustration as a gift for someone who had lost her beloved Collie.
I received a picture that clearly showed the face of a happy, loved, and friendly dog. One that had lived a fulfilling and amazing life. It was all in the eyes.
When I start with my illustrations, after gathering as much information as I possibly can from the source who provides me with the pictures, I look at the eyes. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul, and I believe that to be the case for animals as well.
It's by looking into their eyes that you know if they have lived a good life, which is why I focus most of the details on that part of them.
